AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series Launch

AMD to Launch Radeon RX 9070 Series in Late-February 2024

According to reports from VideoCardz, AMD is planning a media event to officially introduce the next-generation Radeon RX 9070 series graphics cards in late-February 2024. The event may also include the announcement of the flagship Radeon RX 9070 XT, the second-best RX 9070, and new software updates like FSR 4. Availability dates for each product may vary, but the top RX 9070 XT is expected to be available in March.

Both the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are designed by AMD as performance-segment products, likely competing against NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5070 series. With the modest performance improvement seen in the RTX 5080, the performance segment is set to see some competition.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 are based on the 4 nm "Navi 48" silicon, featuring 64 compute units with 4,096 stream processors. They also include a new generation AI accelerator that is faster and more capable than previous versions. Ray tracing performance is expected to see a significant boost, reducing the performance impact of enabling ray tracing in games. FSR 4 will utilize the AI acceleration capabilities of RDNA 4 for its super resolution algorithm.

Both SKUs are anticipated to have all 64 CU enabled, with differences in clock speeds. They will also feature 16 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 256-bit wide memory interface. The media event, as mentioned in a post-CES roundtable with AMD, is likely to be presented online.
