Mini PC Performance Prioritization
Mini PCs that prioritize performance over anything else are not difficult to come by. Many of these systems choose high-end laptop chips over desktop ones, which makes sense due to similar thermal expectations between the two segments. The newly released K10 mini PC from GMKtec features an Intel Core i9-13900HK CPU with up to 96 GB of memory. Pricing details are currently undisclosed, and the system is available for pre-order in China. While a global release is not confirmed, GMKtec typically brings its products to the global market.
The Core i9-13900HK CPU, with 14 cores and 20 threads, may be a couple of years old but still offers impressive performance comparable to the Core Ultra 9 185H. The system supports up to 96 GB of DDR5-5200 memory through dual SODIMM slots. Additionally, the K10 includes three M.2 2280 slots for up to 12 TB of solid-state storage. The cooling system seems promising, but its effectiveness will be determined by independent reviews.
However, one drawback of the GMKtec K10 mini PC is its networking capabilities. The absence of 10G networking may disappoint users looking to use the system as an entry-level all-flash NAS. Despite this, the port selection is adequate, featuring quad USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, dual USB 2.0, a serial port, HDMI, DisplayPort, audio jack, 2.5G LAN, and a single Type-C port with PD. Wireless connectivity is supported by Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6.
