TechPowerUp's Evaluation of ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC Edition Graphics Card
In a recent evaluation by W1zzard from TechPowerUp, the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC Edition graphics card did not receive any awards. One major drawback highlighted in the late January review was the inability to increase the power limit beyond the default setting. Despite this limitation, the premium-tier ASUS card managed to outperform other GeForce RTX 5080-class cards in TPU's "Maximum Overclock Comparison" table, thanks to its default 400 W power setting.
Reviewers and owners of the ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080 OC Edition, priced at over $1500, have expressed disappointment over the lack of additional headroom for overclocking. In comparison, GIGABYTE's RTX 5080 GAMING OC SKU, which can support up to 450 W, ranked fifth in the comparison.
According to a recent report by VideoCardz, ASUS has taken this feedback into consideration and made changes to address the issue. Midway through last month, ASUS released a BIOS update for the "ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB GDDR7 OC Edition" model, allowing for a maximum TGP of 450 W. This update will provide owners with additional performance capabilities beyond NVIDIA's reference specification of 360 W.
In addition to the power limit increase, ASUS also made adjustments to the noise profiles of the Astral series in mid-February, showing their commitment to improving the user experience based on feedback received since the launch of the product.
