Lonely City Hardware's New ASUS ROG Strix Gaming Laptop
Lonely City Hardware has recently come across an interesting new ASUS ROG Strix gaming laptop. This laptop features an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX APU and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Mobile 12 GB graphics card. Customers in China can purchase this laptop for 13999 RMB (~$1907 USD). Despite the mysterious nature of the Ryzen 8000HX mobile chipsets, Lonely City Hardware was unable to locate this specific SKU in official company listings.
According to VideoCardz, AMD was initially expected to reveal "Dragon Range Refresh" processors at CES 2025. However, they decided to focus on the newer Ryzen 9000HX "Fire Range" options instead. MSI reportedly released press material mentioning a laptop powered by the Ryzen 9 8945HX, deviating from the norm. Leaks suggest that the refreshed "Dragon Range" Zen 4 APUs have slightly higher boost frequencies. The Ryzen 9 8940HX, for example, can reach speeds of up to 5.3 GHz, 100 MHz faster than its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7940HX. These processors utilize older RDNA 2 integrated iGPUs, prompting laptop manufacturers to pair Ryzen 8000HX APUs with the latest discrete graphics solutions.
