Introducing AMPINEL: Advanced Monitoring and Protection for 12V-2x6 Power Supply Connections

Aqua Computer has unveiled AMPINEL, a cutting-edge monitoring device designed specifically for 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR) power supply connections. AMPINEL is the first device to integrate active current balancing, comprehensive monitoring, and emergency shutdown capabilities into a single solution. By intervening instantly in the event of uneven load distribution, AMPINEL ensures balanced current flow, effectively preventing thermal overload and safeguarding both connectors and cables.

Uniform Power Distribution and Overheating Protection

High-performance graphics cards and components can draw up to 600 watts through the 12V-2x6 connection. Inadequate contact between connectors can lead to uneven power distribution, resulting in critical temperatures and potential hardware damage. AMPINEL addresses this risk by actively balancing current across all six lines. When the current in any line exceeds 7.5 A, the device intervenes immediately. Its hybrid control system, combining digital and analog controls, ensures seamless and real-time load distribution.

The integrated microcontroller continuously monitors all operating conditions, adjusting control parameters as needed. AMPINEL’s six-layer printed circuit board, constructed with 2 oz (70 µm) copper per layer, minimizes energy loss and optimizes heat dissipation. The robust, machined aluminum housing doubles as a heat sink, while the graphics card connector is encapsulated for a secure, vibration-free connection.

Comprehensive Real-Time Monitoring

AMPINEL provides detailed monitoring of all currents, voltages, and temperatures at the connector. Through the aquasuite software, users can visualize over 40 measured values, including current, voltage, and power for each line, as well as the status of active current balancing. The system also records the temperatures of both the power supply plugs and internal electronics, with support for an additional external temperature sensor.

All collected data can be processed and displayed within aquasuite, allowing for custom overview pages or in-depth analysis via diagrams. Users can access system status remotely on a smartphone, and receive notifications of important events by email.

Flexible Display and Customizable Indicators

Even in professional environments without a monitor or USB connection, AMPINEL ensures users remain informed. The integrated OLED display presents all key data, navigable via a side button. Eight RGB LEDs provide a visual representation of system utilization by default. Both the display and LED indicators are fully customizable through aquasuite, enabling users to tailor the information shown to their specific needs.

Advanced Alarm Management and Emergency Shutdown

AMPINEL operates discreetly in the background, with an eight-stage alarm management system designed for maximum safety. If operating parameters deviate from set limits, the device can trigger visual LED alerts, acoustic alarms, Windows pop-up notifications, or interrupt external fan signals via the alarm output.

For persistent alarms, the aquasuite background service can automatically terminate GPU-intensive applications or initiate a system shutdown via software or alarm output. In critical situations, AMPINEL protects the graphics card by interrupting the sense lines and power supply, preventing hardware damage.

Each alarm level can be assigned a hotkey, which AMPINEL outputs as a USB keyboard input, enabling automated actions even on non-Windows systems. All emergency shutdowns, alarm outputs, and alerts are processed internally, independent of software or USB connectivity. Configuration is managed via aquasuite and stored permanently on the device.
